Sri Nageswara Swamy Temple - Vada Nageswaram (Chennai's Rahu Sthalam)- Kundrathur

This temple is considered the Raahu Sthalam among 9 Navagraha Temples of Chennai (or Thondai Mandalam). The Naagar around the deity is considered the ‘Raahu’ for worship. Parihaarams (remedial worship) for Raahu are done here, especially during Raahu Kethu Peyarchi and also during Raahu Kaalam (4.30 pm to 06.00 pm) on Sundays.

Sri Nagai Mugai Valli Sameda Kandhazheeswarar temple, Kundrathur

This is an ancient Shiva temple a 10 minutes walk from Kundrathur Bus Stand on the Murugan temple road. Lord Shiva - Kandhazheeshwara - Kandhu means attachment and Azhi means removal of attachment – Lord who removed material attachments – Kandhazheeswarar blesses with grace. The Goddess - Nagai Mugai Valli - Smiling Face Ambal is so gracious that you can move away from her
Lord Shiva is also as Valeeshwara - a gigantic Shivalinga here

Thiru Uraga Perumal Temple, Kundrathur

Thiru Ooraga Perumal temple is very close to Kandhazeehswarar temple. Perumal is in standing form similar to Tirupati Balaji and Mahalakshmi shrine is adjacent to that. One will tend to skip her as the shrine is concealed. Lord Ram, Lakshman and Sita Ma grace along with Hanuman in the prakara

Arulmigu Subramanya Swamy Temple, Kundrathur

After conquering the demons in Tiruporur, Lord Muruga proceeded to Tiruthani in a happy mood. He installed a Shiva Linga and performed Shiva Puja on His way with deep meditation. This temple was later built by Kulothunga Chozha. Lord Shiva, worshipped by Muruga graces in the name of Kandleeswarar in a separate shrine. Lord Vishnu, Lord Dakshinamurthy and Mother Durga grace on the sanctum walls of Lord Muruga shrine. Lord Kasi Viswanatha, Mother Visalakshi, Lord Vinayaka, Bhairava, Navagrahas the nine planets and Nagar (serpent deities) shrines are in the prakara.

This is a hill temple - 80 + steps lead to Lord Ganesha who blesses us before proceeding to Lord Subramanya. There is also a road on the hillock for motor vehicles
The book is good for all devotees and pilgrims of Lord Ayyappa. It makes the reader feel as if himself is on a visit to Mount Sabari. The book has answered all questions that rise in the minds of readers-whether they are new ones, skeptics, laymen or devotees. The legend of the origin of the holy pilgrimage, the adventurous trek, the significance of the journey are informative

More info http://bit.ly/1nKUDhy
More details: ‘Swamiye, saranam Ayyappa’ shout thousands of devotees who make this pilgrimage to Sabari after 41 days of penance and austerity. They carry a two compartment bag called Irumudi as they climb the Sabarimala hills. And only then can they ascend the 18 steps to the sanctum. No women between puberty and menopause are allowed. The book tells all the tales associated with Lord Ayyappa and the pilgrimage to Sabarimala. How Ayyappa was born from the union of Vishnu(as Mohini) and Shiva, why all Hindu pilgrimages lead one to beautiful surroundings generally on top of hills like Sabari, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Tirupati etc. is told in this book. The flow of devotees has increased almost ten fold in the last decade and this has made the author add one more chapter to the book about the latest information, the facilities offered and the changes that have taken place in recent times. Today the pilgrims come from outside India as well and there is no discrimination between communities or castes.

The rates are not negotiable here. .compared to other colleges the tution fees are moderate.

When we went, we were asked to remove footwear (secret microphone fear) and were asked to wait in a big hall (of an erstwhile bungalow). The hall was airy and we were about to doze; one gentleman with Sandal pottu called us in. Before entering we were asked to handover the cell phones etc. The admission officer's assistant (my friend named him Alla kai) was wary of these gadgets as the might be leaked to media.
At the end we got the numbers. Since the trust (and other colleges) took so much for not leaking .. I am not revealing the figures.
There is a belief that if one worships this Lord for continuous six Tuesdays, all the wishes (mainly Marriage and Fertility etc) would be granted

There is Santoshi Matha shrine in the Temple complex (not to be confused with Virugambakkam Santhoshi Matha Shrine). The temple is very near to Valaswarakkam Bus Stop
The Manakula Vinayagar Temple is one of the famous ancient temple is
in Puducherry, a Union Territory situated in the southern part of Indian
sub-continent. The temple is 400 meters West of Bay of Bengal Sea, 165
Km South of Chennai (Capital of Tamil Nadu State)
Lord GANESHA originally named as Bhuvaneshar Ganapathy became
Manakula Vinayagar.

In Tamil 'Manal' means sand and 'Kulam' means
pond near the sea, earlierly which was full of sand around pond. So the
people called the god as Manal Kulathu Vinayagar [means God near the
pond of sand]. Later it is named as MANAKULA VINAYAGAR.

Legend says that Jesuits and missionaries tried to demolish Manakula
Vinayagar, but they could not demolish the temple. Everytime the idol
was thrown into sea, it was washed ashored. During 1700 French even
prohibited performing poojas and festivals particularly on Fridays in
the temple. All the Hindus who were worshipping Lord Vinayaga
objected and migrated to Moratandi English Territory. Still Lord
Ganesha came back to bless Puduchery citizens

Temple Speciality:
While we have not heard of a night shrine for Vinayaka in any temple,
there is one in the Manakula Vinayakar temple. He stays here with his
consorts. The idol taken to this shrine, called Palliarai, will have the feet
part alone. Vinayaka on the Well: The stage (peetam) set for the God is
on a well which many may not know. This may be a well or even a tank. A
six inch radius pit runs on the left side of the peetam, the depth of which
could not be measured

The Ashwini devas then came to Tirukacchur to find some rare herbs and worshipped Lord Shiva here. They were unable to find the right herb that could cure Indira's ailment

Ashwini devas did penance here for twelve years and during the course of time they found that the plants, flowers and shrubs look the same in all seasons. They wondered how this can happen. Lord Shiva, doesn't want to test the patience of Aswini Devas and gave darshan there and told them that the soil of this Place itself is medicine. Hence marundeeshwar temple has a small place where one can collect the Soil and apply on Fore Head and drink with water

It is also said that Sage Agasthiyar worshipped Lord Marundheeswarar both at Thiruvaanmiyur and Thirukkachur and enriched his knowledge on Herbal Medicines
Organic farming is the natural way of cultivation. This goes back to olden days where the Farmer relies on the Pancha Bootha for better yield
Organic farming uses fertilizers and pesticides that are natural - Cow Dung, some plants that act as pesticide etc (herbicides, insecticides and fungicides etc)
The food from Organic produce doesn't harm health and help one sustain a good life. There are many places where Organic farming has been taken-up in Tamil Nadu and Chennai in particular. A group of 20 IT Professionals are growing greens and vegetables near a farm in Tirunindravur (near Avadi), Nammazhvar is an expert in the field and has dedicated himself for that. Government provides good loans for Agriculture. What stops you from being a proud Farmer!
