Lord Muruga is known for showering blessings - that's the reason he is called as Kaliyuga Varadhan. The Lord Muruga in Valasarawakkam is unique in himself. With Six fingers on his right feet and having the Jaba Mala on one hand and Dandam on other he resembles Brahma, With a Thirunamam in his chest he takes the form of Vishnu. nevertheless to say that he is a form of Shiva

There is a belief that if one worships this Lord for continuous six Tuesdays, all the wishes (mainly Marriage and Fertility etc) would be granted

There is Santoshi Matha shrine in the Temple complex (not to be confused with Virugambakkam Santhoshi Matha Shrine). The temple is very near to Valaswarakkam Bus Stop

Arulmigu Manakkula Vinayagar Tirukovil Pondicherry/Puduchery

How to go to Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar /Ganesh Temple Pondichery

The Manakula Vinayagar Temple is one of the famous ancient temple is in Puducherry, a Union Territory situated in the southern part of Indian sub-continent. The temple is 400 meters West of Bay of Bengal Sea, 165 Km South of Chennai (Capital of Tamil Nadu State) Lord GANESHA originally named as Bhuvaneshar Ganapathy became Manakula Vinayagar.

In Tamil 'Manal' means sand and 'Kulam' means pond near the sea, earlierly which was full of sand around pond. So the people called the god as Manal Kulathu Vinayagar [means God near the pond of sand]. Later it is named as MANAKULA VINAYAGAR.

Legend says that Jesuits and missionaries tried to demolish Manakula Vinayagar, but they could not demolish the temple. Everytime the idol was thrown into sea, it was washed ashored. During 1700 French even prohibited performing poojas and festivals particularly on Fridays in the temple. All the Hindus who were worshipping Lord Vinayaga objected and migrated to Moratandi English Territory. Still Lord Ganesha came back to bless Puduchery citizens

Temple Speciality: While we have not heard of a night shrine for Vinayaka in any temple, there is one in the Manakula Vinayakar temple. He stays here with his consorts. The idol taken to this shrine, called Palliarai, will have the feet part alone. Vinayaka on the Well: The stage (peetam) set for the God is on a well which many may not know. This may be a well or even a tank. A six inch radius pit runs on the left side of the peetam, the depth of which could not be measured

Medicinal Temple in Chennai - Sri Andhaka Nivarani Ambaal Sameda Sri Oushadheeswarar (Marundheeswarar) Temple Tirukacchur, Chennai

Sri Andhaka Nivarani Ambaal (Sri Irul Neekki Ambaal) Sameda Sri Oushadheeswarar (Marundheeswarar) Temple , Tirukacchur, Chennai

Lord Indra had a rare disease which cannot cured by his doctors - the Aswini Devas. The Ashwini devas then came to Tirukacchur to find some rare herbs and worshipped Lord Shiva here. They were unable to find the right herb that could cure Indira's ailment

Ashwini devas did penance here for twelve years and during the course of time they found that the plants, flowers and shrubs look the same in all seasons. They wondered how this can happen. Lord Shiva, doesn't want to test the patience of Aswini Devas and gave darshan there and told them that the soil of this Place itself is medicine. Hence marundeeshwar temple has a small place where one can collect the Soil and apply on Fore Head and drink with water

It is also said that Sage Agasthiyar worshipped Lord Marundheeswarar both at Thiruvaanmiyur and Thirukkachur and enriched his knowledge on Herbal Medicines
